It is that time of the month - Woven is happening this Sunday. We would love for you to be with us.
In the past month, I have had the blessing of sitting around the table to share food with many loved ones, friends old and new and friends from .
These longer, brighter days feel like offerings at the altar of friendship and play - invitations to gather together, to yield towards connection.
Interdependence is biological necessity. It is how ecosystems function. It is how we stay well and how we give pulse to community.
And, our interdependence requires active tending.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the Heart is the supreme ruler. The Heart influences all of the other organ systems inside of us. Like weather patterns moving across a landscape, its influence is felt across all systems.
The Heart houses the Shen - our essence, consciousness or spirit (or light behind our eyes). The vitality of which is reflected in the volition of expression.
The Pericardium — the tissue surrounding the Heart — protects it and holds it and creates a safe container so the Heart doesn’t overfill and enables it to be well positioned within the chest differentiated from surrounding structures.
In TCM, the Pericardium is connected to how we open and close to people into the world around us. How readily we let people in and how able we are to close the gates when we choose not to share ourselves.
The Heart governs the face and is connected with the tongue — the muscle of expression, the place of song, laughter, whisper, speech and story.
The Heart is the territory of connection. Sometimes it benefits from being witnessed, moved with and tended.
This Sunday at Woven, we’ll move gently with the Heart and Pericardium.
Join us to practice together. This practice will be led by Em.
